In 1987, a legendary Visionary thought that Kanyakumari district is in need of a modern orthopaedic hospital. This visionary was Dr. S Krishna Kumar. He made the first step in this direction on the first of July 1987 at 66, Court Road, Nagercoil. A small orthopaedic clinic was started. The public were educated of the evils of native treatment and the benefits of the modern system of orthopaedic care. Patients were initially admitted and operated at Natesan Hospital and Dr Jayaharan memorial hospital.

As the patient population started growing, the need for a dedicated orthopaedic centre incorporating good infrastructure and modern
equipments. It was equally evident that the technology and skill should also be updated.

In 1991, the present site abutting the railway over bridge at Parvathipuram was acquired and construction of an orthopaedic hospital was started. On first November 1993, the hospital was laid open by freedom fighter Dr S Muthukaruppa Pillai.

From that day, the hospital saw growth and developments in every field of orthopaedics. Dr S Krishna Kumar travelled across the length and breadth of the nation and visited centres of excellence in the U.K., Germany, Italy, Malaysia and many more countries to import technology and skill. The so imported technology and skill were modified to the requirements of the local population. The hospital started getting patients not only from in and around the district, but also from the neighbouring districts. The fame of the hospital started reaching far and wide, that patients from Maldives, Dubai, Soudi Arabia started flocking in.
