Club foot is a deformity present at birth where the foot is turned inside. One or both feet
may be involved. The condition is often diagnosed before birth during routine ultrasound
examination of the mother.
Very often there is associated congenital malefaction of the hip joint. Therefore these
patients should undergo ultrasound examination of the hips immediately after birth.
Club foot should be treated immediately after birth. It is easy to treat the newborn foot
with manipulation and application of corrective POP cast. The POP cast is changed every
week with increasing the degree of correction. The correction is usually achieved in a
month time. Some patients many need additional casts. After the correction is achieved
using cast, a small surgery is preformed to lengthen the heel cord. Following the surgery,
the correction of the foot is maintained with a splint for a variable period of time
These children are kept under follow up for at least two years, for there is a possibility of
recurrence of the deformity if left un cared for.
The results of early treatment of club foot are excellent provided the procedure is followed
diligently.
Club foot clinic is open on all days 9.00 am to 5.00 pm except Sundays
