Infection Control Activities

Infection is a major disaster in orthopaedic surgery. Hence, very special steps are taken to prevent surgical site infection.

  1. A sprawling 5000 square feet operation theatre complex fully adhering to national and international standards.
  2. Separate OT for high profile surgeries like joint replacement and spinal surgery fitted with HEPA filter and laminar air flow system and graded air movement system.
  3. The operation theatre complex and SICU has restricted entry with access control system. Unnecessary passage of personnel in and out of OT complex and SICU is restricted.
  4. To ensure the sterility of the operation theatre, we take swabs from OT walls and the floors every month and perform culture tests.
  5. All Central Sterile Supply Department (CSSD) activities are monitored by a qualified microbiologist. We test every instrument package for sterility using a chemical indicator and we check the reliability of the autoclave machine using a biological indicator.

6.  We conduct daily surveillance of all in-patients, and if any surgical site infection is detected, we isolate the patient and provide appropriate treatment.

7. To prevent cross-infection, ETO sterilized and securely packed dressing materials are used for routine dressings. Hand hygiene practices and the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) are strictly followed.

8. Our surgical site infection is lowest even when compared with international standards.

9. Every patient room is fumigated with silvicide solution after discharge before new patient is admitted.

We adhere to internationally accepted standards for surgical site infection (SSI) control, ensuring that infections are unlikely to affect surgical outcomes.
