KKOH got accredited to the National Board of Examination in Medical Sciences in the year 2003. The institute started training post graduates in orthopaedics from 2003 onwards. The candidates choose the institute by all india counselling after NEET PG qualification. Candidates from the length and breath of India come here for pursuing their post graduate course in orthopaedics leading to the award of DNB (Orthopaedics).
Every year two candidates are trained. The number has increased to 3 from 2025. The track record of the successful candidates speaks of the quality of postgraduate training given to the candidates.
The present faculty is a blend of experience and expertise in the field of orthopaedics and its sub specialities with special dedication to teaching. The postgraduates get additional training from the visiting faculty from India and outside.
In 1987, a legendary Visionary thought that Kanyakumari district is in need of a modern orthopaedic hospital. This visionary was Dr. S Krishna Kumar. He made the first step in this direction on the first of July 1987 at 66, Court Road, Nagercoil. A small orthopaedic clinic was started. The public were educated of the evils of native treatment and the benefits of the modern
system of orthopaedic care. Patients were initially admitted and operated at Natesan Hospital and Dr Jayaharan memorial hospital.
